What it is

Hareline UV2 Goose Biots are goose biots cut from large goose wing feathers. Each biot is clean and naturally tapered, and this UV2 version adds ultraviolet fluorescence and reflectance on top of being double-dyed. On the hook they give you a crisp, defined edge that helps make tight segments when you wrap them.

What to tie with it

Use them for tails, legs, and antennae by tying in the tapered tip and letting the natural shape do the work. For bodies, tie a biot in by the base and wrap it forward to build a slim, segmented abdomen on small nymphs, midges, and emergers. They’re also a go-to for stonefly nymph tails and stonefly adult antennae where you want stiffness without bulk.

Flies and the fish they're for

Prince Nymphs use biots for the tail and for those signature “horns,” and it’s a classic trout fly on freestones and tailwaters. The Psycho Prince Nymph keeps that same biot look and gets fished for trout as a searching nymph in rivers and pocket water. For big Western-style stonefly imitations like the 20 Incher Stonefly Nymph, biots are right at home for the tails, and that’s a standard drifted nymph for trout in faster rivers during stonefly seasons.

How it compares

Compared with regular goose biots, UV2 adds UVF/UVR wavelengths. Compared with UV2 turkey biots, the goose biots are longer and slimmer, which makes them a cleaner choice for segmented body wraps.
