What it is
Hareline UV2 Marabou is selected marabou feathers tied from natural marabou quills with UV-emissive coloration. The fibers have supple tips that breathe and pulse in the water, giving you that wormy, living movement even on a slow retrieve. It also winds easily, so you can wrap it like a hackle instead of only tying it in as a bunch.
What to tie with it
Use it for tails on Wooly Buggers, swimmy tails on larger nymphs, and for streamer wings and collars where you want soft movement. You can palmer-wrap it for collars on streamers and steelhead flies, or wind it for shaggy bodies on nymphs. It also makes convincing antennae on shrimp and crab patterns when you want subtle, breathing motion.
Flies and the fish they're for
On a Wooly Bugger, this marabou is all about that pulsing tail that trout and smallmouth key on in rivers and stillwaters, and it crosses over to species like panfish that chase small bait and leeches. In a Schminnow Fly, marabou helps sell the baitfish profile and movement for trout in moving water and stillwater situations where they’re feeding on minnows. On Barr’s Damsel Nymph, it supports the swimming, alive look that trout eat in lakes and spring creeks when damsels are active.
How it compares
Compared to rabbit fur or Zonker strip, it offers similar movement but in a shorter length and in a form that’s easier to wind and palmer for collars. Against arctic fox fur it’s more supple and more breathable, and compared to EP Fibers it stays more naturally mobile at longer overall fly sizes where some synthetics can go limp around the 5–7 inch range.
