What it is

Hareline UV2 Scud Shrimp is a UV dubbing blend with a medium-to-coarse texture and micro mylar flecks mixed in. The UV2 dye process makes it both UV reflective and UV fluorescent, and in the water it reads as a buggy, slightly sparkly look rather than a loud flash.

What to tie with it

Dub it onto your thread in a tight noodle for smooth scud, shrimp, and sow bug bodies, or leave it a little looser and brush it out to build a more textured nymph body. The medium-to-coarse fibers are handy when you want segmentation and a natural “shell-back” buggy profile without having to stack multiple materials.

Flies and the fish they're for

Use it on scud and sow bug patterns for trout in tailwaters and spring creeks where fish key on crustaceans, especially in clear, cold flows. It also fits right into shrimp-style nymphs for trout anywhere shrimp or scud-like forage shows up, and it crosses over to general buggy nymph patterns that are fished for trout and panfish in rivers, creeks, and stillwaters.
