What it is
Hareline UV2 Sculpin Wool is a fly-tying wool treated with UV2 processing that combines UVF and UVR for UV reflectivity. In the water it reads as a high-visibility material, and at the vise it stays consistent and clean with spotless fibres. It’s easy to tie in and easy to trim into shape, which matters when you’re building heads.
What to tie with it
Use it for sculpin patterns and for forming baitfish and streamer heads where you want a shaped, trimmed profile. You’ll typically tie it in as a clump at the front of the fly and then trim it to a head shape, or stack and build it in layers to control the silhouette. It also works when you need a clean, uniform wool head that won’t fight you while you’re shaping.
Flies and the fish they're for
This material is aimed at sculpin-style streamers and baitfish-head streamers, which are staples for trout in rivers where sculpins and small forage fish are a big part of the diet. Those same head-building uses carry over to bigger baitfish streamers for species like smallmouth bass in moving water and stillwaters. In saltwater, baitfish-style streamers built with defined heads are commonly fished for species like striped bass and redfish where a strong baitfish profile helps the fly track and push water.
