What it is
Hareline Veevus Holographic Tinsel is a holographic fly-tying tinsel that’s built to throw a lot of reflected light off a wrapped body or rib. It’s stronger than average tinsel, so it holds up better when you’re putting real tension on it at the vise or when fish teeth and rocks get involved. In the water it reads as a flashy, light-catching band with that holographic look rather than a flat metallic shine.
What to tie with it
Use it as a wrap for bodies on nymphs, midges, and streamers, or as a rib to add segmentation and durability over dubbing, floss, or other body materials. It also works for a cracked wing case imitation by laying it over the top of the thorax area, and as a general flashy rib when you want a little more pop without changing the whole profile of the fly.
Flies and the fish they're for
This tinsel is a natural fit anywhere you’d normally fish a flashy ribbed midge or nymph for trout in rivers and tailwaters, especially when you want the body to stand out in deeper or faster runs. Wrapped on streamer bodies or used to rib a streamer, it’s right at home in baitfish-style patterns that get fished for trout and smallmouth in moving water and in lakes, and it also carries over to saltwater baitfish applications where extra flash helps for species like redfish and seatrout. Even without naming a specific pattern, think “holographic rib/body upgrade” for the same flies you already trust in those fisheries.
How it compares
Compared with UNI Clear Mylar Tinsel, this one is not clear; it’s designed to show a holographic, reflective look rather than a transparent wrap.
