What it is
Hareline Veevus Mono Thread is a monofilament tying thread made from a single strand of mono. It’s strong and durable, and the translucence lets it blend in on the hook. Under resin it all but disappears, which is exactly what you want on a lot of epoxy-style patterns.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you want a clean, see-through look: ribbing on nymphs, scuds, sowbugs, and shrimp, and as the tying thread when you’re planning to coat or finish the head with resin. It’s also a good choice for finishing streamer, shrimp, and squid heads so the wraps don’t show through the coating. On saltwater patterns it holds up well and keeps the build neat without adding bulk.
Flies and the fish they're for
Surf Candy is a classic place for mono thread because it’s typically finished under epoxy; it’s fished for false albacore, bonito, striped bass, and bluefish in the surf and along beaches, and it crosses over to freshwater as a baitfish for smallmouth. Hollow Fleye and Beast Fleye are bucktail hollow-body baitfish patterns where mono can keep the head clean for a finished look; they’re commonly tied and fished for striped bass in the Northeast and for other big bait-eaters in open water. Ultra Shrimp and Crazy Charlies are flats standards where a translucent build matters; they’re go-to bonefish flies, and they also see plenty of use for permit and redfish.
