What it is
Hareline Woolly Bugger Saddle Hackle is a selection of saddle hackle feathers set up for big, sweeping wraps. The stems are flexible, the fibers are webby, and many feathers show natural barring that reads as built-in segmentation once it’s palmered.
What to tie with it
This is classic palmering hackle for Woolly Buggers and other leech-style streamers: tie the feather in and spiral it through the body for a full, breathing profile. You can also use the longer feathers for long, flowing tails on bigger patterns, including Deceiver-style tails and flatwing-type flies where you want movement without a stiff, spiky look.
Flies and the fish they're for
On a Woolly Bugger, this hackle becomes the moving “engine” of the fly, and that’s a go-to streamer for trout in rivers and stillwaters, smallmouth in creeks and rivers, and plenty of warmwater species anywhere you can swing or strip a leechy profile. On a Deceiver, these longer, webby feathers fit right into the tail concept for a baitfish silhouette, a staple for striped bass and other saltwater and inshore predators, and also a common choice for freshwater stripers and big river bass.

Compared with Hareline Strung Saddles, it’s a similar type of material, but this Woolly Bugger-focused selection tends to be a more efficient pick if you’re mainly tying Buggers, with less waste than buying strung saddles just to cherry-pick bugger feathers.
