What it is

Hareline Woolly Bugger Tinsel Core UV Rayon Chenille is a rayon chenille built on a thread core with silver tinsel and a UV pearl element worked into it. On the hook it wraps like standard chenille, but the tinsel core gives you built-in flash through the body. It’s a medium-size chenille that’s durable and easy to wind without fighting the fibers.

What to tie with it

Use it when you want a quick, even body that also throws light without adding extra flash material. It’s most commonly palmered or wrapped forward in touching turns for Woolly Bugger bodies, and it also works well as a thicker thorax on nymphs and bugs. You can brush it out after wrapping if you want a fuzzier profile, or leave it tight for a cleaner, segmented look.

Flies and the fish they're for

Woolly Bugger bodies are the obvious home for this material, and that fly covers a lot of water: trout in rivers and stillwaters, smallmouth in streams and rivers, and even warmwater pond fish like bass and panfish. Girdle Bugs tied with a chenille body get fished as big stonefly/hellgrammite-style meals for trout and smallmouth in moving water, especially when you need a rugged, high-profile bug you can bounce along the bottom.

How it compares

Compared with Hareline Ultra Chenille, this version builds in flash from the tinsel/UV pearl, while Ultra Chenille is a straight chenille with no flash. They’re interchangeable by size and color when you’re matching proportions, but you’d pick this one when you want the body to sparkle without adding another step.
