What it is
Loon Water Based Thinner is a water-based thinner made to adjust the viscosity of water-based head cements. It’s odor-free and non-toxic at the bench, and it’s meant to bring thickened cement back to a workable consistency.
What to tie with it
Use it when your water-based head cement starts getting too thick in the bottle and you need it to flow and level again. It’s for fine-tuning how cement penetrates thread wraps and builds a neat, smooth head without getting gummy.
Flies and the fish they're for
This isn’t a fly material that shows up in a specific pattern recipe, but it supports any pattern where you finish with water-based head cement. That includes freshwater trout flies where you want a lighter, more delicate finish on small heads, as well as bass and panfish bugs where you’re still sealing thread and locking in durability without stepping into harsher, chemical-based cements.
How it compares
Compared with chemical-based thinners, a water-based formula is less harsh to handle at the tying bench, with no odor and lower toxicity. It’s intended specifically for water-based head cements, not for thinning lacquer-style cements.
