What it is
The Dr Slick Bobbin Threader is a bobbin-threading tool with a carbon fiber handle and a brass wire loop. It’s lightweight but rigid and durable at the bench, and the fine wire loop is made to fit into small bobbin tubes.
What to tie with it
You use it to thread your bobbin quickly by pushing the wire loop through the tube and pulling your tying thread back through. It’s especially handy when you’re changing spools a lot, or when you’re working with short tag ends that are hard to grab and feed through by hand.
Flies and the fish they're for
Zebra Midges and Parachute Adams are trout flies where quick re-threading helps when you’re cycling through different thread sizes and doing small, precise work for tailwaters, spring creeks, and freestones. Elk Hair Caddis is another trout staple, and a threader keeps you moving when you’re tying a bunch for hatches and need to reload thread without fuss. For streamers like the Clouser Minnow, being able to re-thread fast matters when you’re stacking materials and switching threads for flies aimed at smallmouth, stripers, and redfish in rivers, lakes, and the salt.
How it compares
Compared to all-wire threaders, the carbon fiber handle and brass loop setup is less prone to bending or breaking. It also beats threading by hand or mouth, since moisture can weaken tying thread.
