What it is
Hareline’s Double Ceramic Premium Bobbin is a fly-tying bobbin with a stainless steel body and double ceramic tube inserts. The ceramic inserts are wear-resistant and keep thread running with low friction, while the bobbin gives smooth, controllable tension. Stainless steel also brings corrosion resistance for long bench life.
What to tie with it
Use it for thread tensioning and laying down clean, consistent thread wraps from start to whip finish. The low-friction ceramic tubes help reduce thread breakage, which matters when you’re working with fine threads or when you’re really leaning on tension for tight bodies, neat heads, or durable tie-ins. It’s also handy to keep more than one bobbin rigged so you can switch threads without rethreading mid-fly.
Flies and the fish they're for
This bobbin isn’t fly-specific, so it shows up everywhere from tiny trout dries and nymphs where fine thread and breakage control matter, to durable bass and saltwater streamers where you’re cinching down materials hard. In practice it’s the same tool whether you’re spinning up delicate tailwater trout patterns or stacking thread wraps on bigger flies for smallmouth, stripers, and redfish. The advantage is that smooth tension and low friction make it easier to keep your thread control steady across all those styles.
