A chest pack is a small tackle pack worn high on the front of your torso, usually held by shoulder straps or a harness. It keeps fly boxes and tools within easy reach while wading.

What Chest pack means
Worn up front, a chest pack carries the things used all day—fly boxes, tippet, floatant, nippers, forceps, and a small leader wallet. Most have zip pockets plus attachment points for tools and a net.
Chest packs are common for wading because they stay above the waterline more often than a waist pack. They also keep gear accessible when sitting in a drift boat or when a wading jacket blocks belt-level pockets.
Fit matters. A pack that rides too low can bump the rod handle while casting or dip into the water when leaning forward. A pack that rides too high can feel cramped and interfere with a rain jacket zipper or a sling strap.
Why it matters on the water
A good chest-pack setup reduces “down time” on the river. When tippet spools, floatant, and your most-used fly box live in predictable spots, rigging and fly changes stay quick and calm, especially in wind or cold.
It also changes how safely and comfortably a day fishes. Keeping weight centered on the body helps balance while wading, and keeping gear up front makes it easier to avoid soaking fly boxes and tools when the water is deep or when kneeling to land a fish.
