Zinger

A zinger is a retractable lanyard that keeps a tool clipped to gear but ready to pull out and use. It’s used for nippers, forceps, and other small accessories.

What Zinger means
Picture a small badge-reel on a clip. Inside is a spring-loaded cord or wire that extends when you pull a tool and retracts when you let go.
Most zingers clip to a pack strap, wader chest, or a D-ring. The tool attaches to the end with a split ring, snap, or small clip. Some models add a second tether or a pin-on mount for fabric.
Why it matters on the water
Small tools get dropped at the worst times: mid-knot, leaning over the water, or while landing a fish. A zinger keeps nippers and forceps from disappearing and keeps them in the same place every time.
Retraction tension matters. Too light and the tool dangles and snags. Too strong and it fights you while tying knots or handling a fish. Matching the zinger to the tool weight keeps the setup quiet and usable.
