A stripping basket is a waist-worn tub that holds loose fly line while you strip. It keeps line from tangling in surf, wind, or around rocks and grass.

What Stripping basket means
Instead of letting stripped line fall at your feet, the line drops into the basket. Most baskets have cones or posts inside to reduce coils sticking together.
In saltwater, it’s common for beach fishing, jetties, and flats with turtle grass or mangroves. Some anglers wear one in a skiff when wind and deck clutter make loose line hard to manage.
Why it matters on the water
Line management is the difference between a clean second shot and a fish that never gets a tight line. A basket keeps running line from wrapping around boots, stripping guides, or shoreline debris when a fish eats and takes off.
It can extend casting range in wind because the line shoots from a cleaner pile. It also reduces wear from line dragging across sand, shells, and rocks, which shows up as roughness and memory over a long day.
