Freshwater Fly Fishing Travel
Nestled in the pristine Bay Islands of Honduras, Fly Fish Guanaja – Guanaja Lodge is a boutique flats fishing destination set in one of the Caribbean’s most productive and scenic saltwater environments. Located on the remote and lush island of Guanaja—known locally as the “Green Island”—the lodge sits in the village of Mangrove Bight, overlooking an expansive network of shallow flats teeming with permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook, and other species.
The Bay Islands lie east of Belize and north of mainland Honduras, and Guanaja remains largely untouched compared with other Caribbean destinations. Vast stretches of coral, sand, and turtle grass create diverse fishing habitats that support abundant fish populations and dramatic sight‑casting opportunities. The lodge’s prime location puts anglers on these flats within minutes of departure—often in water with tailing permit visible from the dock.
Fly Fish Guanaja has operated for nearly two decades, building a reputation for personalized service, expert local guides, and a deep commitment to both conservation and community. The lodge’s core philosophy blends exploration, connection, and environmental stewardship—ensuring a meaningful experience for guests of all skill levels, from seasoned flats anglers to avid travelers seeking their first Caribbean permit shot.
Accommodations are boutique and welcoming, with five oversized cabanas featuring two queen beds, private bathrooms with hot water, and shaded decks overlooking turquoise waters. A spacious communal deck with hammocks and water access creates a relaxed social hub, and the lodge’s open‑air restaurant serves freshly prepared island cuisine with a Caribbean twist.
Fishing around Guanaja is as diverse as it is abundant. Days typically begin at sunrise, with guides tailoring each outing to tides, wind, and fish behavior. Some flats hold dozens of tailing permit at a time, while bonefish patrol sandy edges and tarpon cruise deeper channels. The variety keeps every day fresh and engaging.
Beyond the water, Guanaja’s island culture and scenic beauty elevate the experience. Lush forested hills, crystal reef systems, and a laid‑back Caribbean pace make this destination about more than just fishing—it’s a full immersion into one of the most vibrant saltwater environments on Earth.
