River Cruiser
The Golden Dorado River Cruiser is a one-of-a-kind mothership adventure operating deep within Argentina’s legendary Paraná River Delta. Spanning more than 5,000 square miles of interconnected rivers, tributaries, marshlands, and lagoons, this vast ecosystem is the second largest river drainage in South America after the Amazon. It is wild, remote, and ever-changing — and it is here that the Golden Dorado River Cruiser redefines what a freshwater fly fishing experience can be.
Unlike traditional land-based lodges, this program is built entirely around mobility. The 70-foot catamaran, the Paraná Gipsy, moves strategically throughout the upper delta, positioning anglers in the most productive water based on season, river conditions, bait migrations, and dorado movement. In a system as dynamic as the Paraná, mobility is everything. By following the fish rather than waiting for them, guests consistently access pristine, unpressured water that static operations simply cannot reach.
Evenings aboard the cruiser are equally memorable. Air-conditioned staterooms with private baths provide comfort after long days casting. Gourmet meals prepared by an onboard chef showcase Argentina’s renowned cuisine, complemented by fine wines and handcrafted cocktails. Guests gather on the elevated deck to relive the day’s explosive eats beneath the southern sky.

Golden dorado are widely regarded as one of the most exciting game fish on the planet. Brilliantly colored and fiercely aggressive, they explode on flies with shocking speed and power. Whether stalking structure along a side channel, casting to lagoon inlets, or watching a fish detonate on a topwater popper, every moment on the water demands focus. Dorado are acrobatic, hard-fighting predators, often ranging from 5 to 15 pounds, with opportunities at even larger fish. The delta also offers diverse additional species, ensuring varied and action-packed days on the water.
Fishing is done from purpose-built skiffs with two casting platforms, allowing comfortable sight fishing for pairs of anglers guided by seasoned English- and Spanish-speaking professionals. Each day unfolds across new water — runs, tributaries, marsh edges, and hidden back channels — making every session feel like exploration.
Accommodations aboard the Golden Dorado River Cruiser are centered on comfort, space, and thoughtful design. The 70-foot catamaran, the Paraná Gipsy, features three levels and was fully refurbished to meet the needs of traveling fly anglers. On the lower deck, four spacious double staterooms and one single cabin each offer private en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and heat, comfortable beds, television, and 24-hour electricity supported by solar energy.
The main deck houses an inviting living and dining area, along with a full-service kitchen where the onboard chef prepares exceptional Argentine cuisine. Outside, a covered deck provides a relaxing place to unwind with a cocktail while watching river wildlife drift past. The upper level offers a panoramic 360-degree viewing deck and solarium with lounge seating — perfect for enjoying sunsets over the delta. With attentive service, refined meals, and comfortable private quarters, the cruiser delivers a boutique lodge experience in the heart of untamed water.
Travel to and from the Golden Dorado River Cruiser is seamless and refreshingly simple, especially given the remote waters it explores. Most guests arrive via Buenos Aires, though convenient access is also available from Rosario. From Buenos Aires, a comfortable private ground transfer of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours brings guests north by highway to a private marina. From Rosario, the drive is just 30 minutes.
Upon arrival at the marina, staff greet guests and transfer luggage into a dedicated boat that carries anglers into the heart of the Paraná River Delta. The scenic boat ride — typically about an hour — winds through marshes, side channels, and wildlife-rich riverbanks, offering a first glimpse of the wild setting to come.
Because the mothership moves to follow optimal fishing conditions, its exact location varies, but all transfers are coordinated and included, ensuring a smooth, stress-free journey from city to wilderness and back again.
The Golden Dorado River Cruiser operates from September through April.
Spring and early summer (September–December) offer excellent fishing as water temperatures rise and dorado become increasingly active. This period often provides consistent action and favorable conditions throughout the delta.
Mid-summer (January–February) can bring hotter temperatures, but fishing remains productive, particularly in early mornings and evenings when dorado are most active.
Late season (March–April) is considered prime time by many anglers, with stable conditions, aggressive fish, and excellent opportunities for larger specimens.
Because the program is mobile, guides can adapt to seasonal changes by relocating to the most productive waters, ensuring consistent fishing throughout the year.
While primarily a fishing-focused program, the Golden Dorado River Cruiser offers a unique experience for non-angling guests as well. The Paraná Delta is a vast and biodiverse ecosystem, often compared to a South American version of the Everglades, with abundant wildlife and scenic beauty.
Guests can enjoy wildlife viewing directly from the mothership or during boat excursions, with opportunities to see capybara, caiman, water buffalo, and a wide variety of bird species.
The relaxed pace of the liveaboard experience also lends itself to downtime—guests can unwind on deck, take in the changing scenery, or enjoy the comfort of the lodge between outings. Photography, nature observation, and simply experiencing life on the river are all highlights of the trip. While activities are more limited than at land-based lodges, the immersive setting and constantly changing environment provide a memorable experience beyond the fishing itself.
