Destination Description

Luxury accommodations, seasoned guides, and big fish - the Lodge at 58 North captures all elements of a bucket list Alaska flyout fly fishing adventure, with some extra special touches.  Located roughly 300 miles southwest of Anchorage, the Lodge at 58 North sits riverside of the famous Naknek River in King Salmon, Alaska.  Owners, operators, and guides Kate and Justin Crump purchased and fully renovated their slice of heaven in 2022 after over fifteen years’ of experience guiding this part of Bristol Bay.  In their Alaska off season, the Crumps also operate and guide a steelhead lodge along the Oregon coast.  With this combined experience, you will be hard-pressed to find more skilled guides for large trout than this husband and wife duo.

The lodge is truly unlike any other traditional Alaska fishing setup, with a modern aesthetic and luxury details.  Settled high on a bluff overlooking the Naknek, the main building boasts an open floor plan with lounging, a full-service bar, and elegant dining area adjacent to an open kitchen where meals are prepared and served.  Accommodating eight (8) guests per week in fully updated cabins with river views, anglers can expect to fly out each day in a de Havilland Beaver on floats to Alaska’s most legendary trout and salmon streams, or fish the lodge’s home river, the Naknek, known for its prolific salmon runs and absolutely giant rainbow trout.  From monster ocean-fresh king salmon to acrobatic silver salmon and some of the largest rainbow trout in the country, each day offers a sense of variety and adventure.  At the conclusion of each fishing day, guests return to the lodge for a gourmet meal prepared by the two expert chefs on staff.  Appetizers and a multi-course dinner are prepared “farm to table” style, with produce home-grown in the lodge’s impressive greenhouse and additional fresh ingredients, premium meats, and seafood sourced locally.

Guests get the ultimate rest in cabins that are thoughtfully designed and stocked with all the essentials.  All you need to pack are your waders, boots, and fishing clothes.  They take care of the rest.  The attention to detail and level of service that 58 North provides its guests each week ensures that both avid and new anglers will have the ultimate, high-end Alaska experience.

FISHING

Guests at 58 North fly out daily aboard the lodge’s de Havilland Beaver on floats to remote streams and rivers in the area. In the event that weather precludes flying, the incredible rainbow trout and salmon fishing of the Naknek River is right out the front door. In fact, many guests throughout the season forgo a fly-out day for longer fishing hours and the convenience of the Naknek. The Naknek is home to some of Alaska’s largest rainbows — many exceeding 30 inches – and tremendous runs of all Pacific salmon species.

58 North guides are well versed in the program and many have over a decade of experience fishing, guiding, and exploring Alaska. Nearly all the guides grew up fishing the famous salmon and steelhead rivers of the Pacific Northwest – and are well kept professionals with excellent manners and instructional ability. Whether you have your children in tow or are looking to learn to cast a spey rod, 58 North guides can handle guests of all skill levels, ages, genders, and levels of physical fitness.

The main lodge boasts a sleek Scandinavian design that merges contemporary style with a cozy, inviting atmosphere, creating a truly special retreat in the heart of Alaska’s wilderness. The open floor plan of the main building integrates the lounge, kitchen, dining area, and well-stocked bar. Spirits, wine, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages are all included as part of the package. The main lodge sits on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Naknek River, which guests can enjoy through the oversized picture windows offering panoramic views.

The menu features fresh salmon from the Naknek River, premium meats from the Mat-Su Valley, and crisp, garden-fresh greens from the lodge’s own farm. Guests indulge in unmatched comfort in the private guest cabins, meticulously updated to offer a blend of modern luxury and rustic charm. Each cabin is designed to provide a serene and private sanctuary, featuring light, airy spaces, and high-end amenities for the utmost comfort.

TRAVEL

The Lodge at 58 North operates on a Sunday - Saturday schedule.

Guests first fly to Anchorage, Alaska, which is serviced daily by the major airlines. Most guests travel to Anchorage on Saturday and spend the night in Anchorage at one of our recommended hotels, continuing on to the lodge the next day.

ANCHORAGE TO KING SALMON

On Sunday, guests board their second flight from Anchorage to King Salmon. This flight is approximately 1 1/2 hours (285 miles). The lodge’s communication director will assist in arranging all travel from Anchorage to King Salmon, as well as the return flight. Once guests arrive in King Salmon, lodge staff will greet guests and shuttle them to The Lodge at 58 North, about 15 minutes away. Upon arrival at the lodge, guests will be met with appetizers and refreshments, then shown to their rooms to unpack and get oriented.

WHEN TO GO / SEASONALITY

The Lodge at 58 North is open from June through October.

Choosing a date to fish anywhere in Western Alaska depends on which species you would like to target. Fishing is excellent all season, but the conditions and species available vary from month to month and may impact when you decide to visit. All months are excellent for viewing wildlife, and anglers often find themselves sharing the river or stream with multiple grizzly bears doing a little fishing of their own.

The annual salmon run plays a huge role in the productivity and style of fishing. Every summer, millions of Pacific Salmon return to their home streams to spawn and die, contributing in this natural cycle of life that maintains the health and productivity of the fishery. SEE BROCHURE FOR DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF WEATHER & SEASONALITY, AS WELL AS TIMING OF SALMON RUNS / STYLE OF FISHING.

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES

We encourage non-angling companions to visit the lodge as well. Families and small children frequently visit the lodge every season and it is a total home run. Perhaps the best way to see Alaska’s gorgeous wilderness, scenery, and wildlife is on a fly-out fishing trip. Guests at 58 North can detour to enjoy glacier and volcano flight-seeing, bear and wildlife viewing, clam digging and eco-tourism activities.

The Lodge at 58 North is by no means a pretentious “fly fishing only” program. Beginner anglers are welcome and encouraged to use spinning equipment instead of fly-rods for salmon if required to make guests more comfortable and successful.
