What it is
Hareline Epoxy Mono Crab Eyes are pre-made crustacean eyes built on a monofilament post with resin eyes. They’re durable, have a lifelike look, and you can cut the mono to the length your pattern needs on the hook.
What to tie with it
Use them as eyes on crab, shrimp, crayfish, and lobster patterns, or anytime you want that crustacean silhouette. At the vise you typically tie the mono post in on top of the shank, splay the stems to set the eye width, then trim to length; in some patterns the mono legs can also be positioned to help act as a weed guard if you keep them stiff enough. They also show up in attractor-style flies where the eyes are a focal point.
Flies and the fish they're for
They’re right at home on shrimp and crab flies for redfish, bonefish, permit, and other saltwater flats fish, where that eye profile helps sell the imitation. They also fit crayfish patterns for smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and stillwaters, since crayfish are a staple forage there. If you’re tying a simple shrimp like the Fuzzy Shrimp, these give you quick, consistent eyes for species that key on shrimp in coastal bays and on the flats.
